Reconnecting Roots in Breaux Bridge

This past weekend, I had the joy of reconnecting with my cousin in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, a special place where our family roots run deep. Born just a month apart, we’ve made it a tradition to meet here between our birthdays, not only to celebrate each other but to explore the heritage we hold dear. This experience brought a deeper appreciation for how our roots—both in the land and in spirit—shape who we are.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of this town, I felt connected to its rich history. Breaux Bridge, named after Agricole Breaux, who built the first footbridge across the Bayou Teche, has long been a cultural hub for Acadians who were expelled from Canada in the 18th century. Walking along the banks of the Bayou Teche, it’s easy to sense the presence of those early refugees who relied on the land and water for survival. This enduring bond between people and nature is woven into both the town’s culture and our family’s legacy over the past two centuries.

The weekend allowed me to reflect on the importance of grounding ourselves—physically and spiritually. The land we walk on, the air we breathe, the flowing waters—each carries the stories of those who came before us. It is in moments like these, immersed in nature, that I find clarity and inspiration for the work we do at On the Edge Enterprises. Just as the plants along the Bayou thrive when we respect nature’s cycles, the greens we grow flourish with the same care. Our business is built on sustainability, where each plant nurtured serves as a reminder of our connection to the larger web of life.

What places or traditions help you stay rooted? I’d love to hear how nature inspires you.

Stay grounded, stay connected, and remember: we all grow best when we tend to our roots.

Keep Growing,
Andrea Crossman
